Brain Training (Writing Down Positive Results)
This exercise is similar to ‘journaling’ BUT is done after every shot in league play. It can alsobe used after every shot when practicing (if you have the time).
This exercise is all about ‘BRAIN TRAINING’ and reinforcing positive results.
What is required is to write down everything you ‘liked’ on the previous shot.We do NOT want to emphasize or think about what we did wrong…only what we ‘liked’. This reinforces the positive and NOT the negative. This will go a long way in developing the proper mental focus while strengthening our mental game too.
The goal is to elevate our ‘strengths’, and in the process, naturally elevate our weaknesses in competition. Then when we hit the lanes to practice, we can focus on our weaknesses to turn them into strengths.
Example:
IF we focus too much on what we did wrong…Our instincts will only hear or see those negative things.
IF we focus on what we ‘liked’ or did ‘right’ on our shots…Our instincts will only hear or see those positive things.
As a result, our instincts will dwell on the positive and build around our strengths. This is what we want on a regular basis.
By writing it down after every shot, it will go deeper and our focus will be stronger as well as memorizing the positive.
Remember: Think positive things and positive things WILL happen!!!! (Writing them down just deepens our thought processing.)
By doing this exercise, it will keep us focused on the right things while also keeping us focused on our game between shots as well as helping us stay relaxed.
