‘Over-Emphasizing’ Theory - Cadence
The ‘Over-Emphasizing’ Theory is a creative and fast-learning tool that applies because the Bowler fully understands how ‘instincts’ work in ALL Sports.
Here’s how this works:
When learning something ‘new’ OR fixing something that’s gone bad; we will ALWAYS want to Over-Emphasize in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION in order to bring the level of correction up to the level we want.
When we simply tell our instincts to fix this or that, they will NOT fix to the level we want since they will not have enough information or they just don’t know how far to go.
Example: If a Bowler wants to slow down his/her feet, it is NOT enough to tell the instincts to slow up since they will not know how much. But, by counting each step slowly with the cadence the Bowler wants, he/she will have the information needed to know how much to slow up.
NOW, the cool part!
When ‘counting’ our steps at the cadence we want to slow up and the instincts are still struggling to reach the level wanted; we ‘OVER-EMPHASIZE’! This means to count EXTRA
SLOW on any particular step that the Bowler is struggling with OR all the steps, if needed. By ‘OVER-EMPHASIZING’ in the opposite direction (slow feet from fast feet), the instincts will get a sense of urgency and will know the Bowler is serious to fix this area RIGHT AWAY!
So, whatever area the Bowler wants to fix OR apply something new, ‘OVER-EMPHASIZE’ IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION in order to fix as quickly as possible. We certainly don’t want to take too much time fixing and leaving pins out on the lanes when we can fix more quickly by using the ‘OVER-EMPHASIZE’ THEORY!
By making the ‘OVER-EMPHASIZE’ THEORY a regular part of the Bowler’s thought-process, getting back to quality shot-making will be expedited and consistently performing on a higher Fundamental level will be common-place!
Remember: ‘OVER-EMPHASIZE’ for quicker results!!!
